Owing to a subtle blending of land and water, our coastline presents remarkable features. Havens well-protected from stormy swells and gales which were ideal for coastal sailing and the old saltworks, and miles on end of sandy beaches which, for centuries, have been the fishing grounds of the locals and where today families still go gathering mussels and cockles.But behind the coastal front you may also find a different aspect of Normandy, its famous « bocage », a countryside of meadows crisscrossed by hedgerows. In the Sienne valley, for example, you will come across numerous manors and old monuments which bear witness to the history of the Province.
